Promote Actions
A promote action represents an allowed transition from the current state to another state. Promote actions can be visible to users, restricted to specific roles, or used by program logic for background automation.
Use promote actions to model business decisions and milestones.
| Example action | Typical transition |
|---|---|
| Submit | Draft to In Review |
| Approve | In Review to Approved |
| Reject | In Review to Rejected |
| Start Work | Planned to In Progress |
| Complete | In Progress to Completed |
| Reopen | Completed to In Progress |
Configuration guidance
- Use action names that describe what the user does.
- Configure the source state and target state for each action.
- Restrict actions to the roles that should perform the transition.
- Require comments when the business process needs a reason or audit note.
- Avoid giving every role every promote action; lifecycle value comes from controlled transitions.
When the next state must be chosen dynamically, use a Promote Action Program. When logic should run as part of a promotion, use a Promote Action Command.
