Usage
Lifecycle configuration is used across type configuration, instance pages, forms, widgets, query definitions, reports, and programs.
Assigning lifecycles to types
Each type must have a lifecycle. The selected lifecycle controls the initial state, available promote actions, state permissions, and lifecycle-related display behavior for instances of that type.
If Instance Specific Lifecycle is enabled for a type, individual instances can use a selected lifecycle. When an instance does not have a selected lifecycle, Protrak uses the lifecycle configured on the type.
See Type Details for the type-level lifecycle fields.
Where lifecycles appear
| Surface | How lifecycle configuration is used |
|---|---|
| Instance pages | Shows the current state, available promote actions, and lifecycle history. |
| Forms | Uses state permissions to determine whether fields are editable or read-only. |
| Compact Lifecycle widget | Shows lifecycle progress directly on a View or Edit form. |
| Type widgets and reports | Can filter records by state and show promote actions in rows or bulk actions. |
| Query definitions | Can filter instances by lifecycle state or return only actionable instances. |
| Programs | Can promote instances, validate transitions, run command logic, or inspect state history. |
