Browser & Environment

Messages related to your browser, internet connection, and device permissions (such as location access). These are things you can usually resolve on your own device.

Browser support

"This browser version is not supported." / "Update to the latest version, or use a supported browser."

  • What it means: You are using a browser (or a browser version) that Protrak does not fully support. Some features may not work correctly.
  • What you can do:
    1. Update your current browser to the latest version.
    2. If updating is not possible, switch to a current, supported browser (recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari).
    3. Restart the browser after updating, then open Protrak again.
  • If you cannot update: On a managed work computer, your IT department may control browser updates — ask them to update it or provide a supported browser.
Keep your browser current

Running the latest browser version resolves not only this message but also many display, upload, and download problems.

Internet connection

"Connection timed out. Please try again later."

  • What it means: Protrak waited for the server but the response did not arrive in time — most often due to a slow or dropped connection, or a very large request.
  • What you can do:
    1. Check that you are online (open another website to confirm).
    2. Move to a more stable connection if you can (wired, or closer to Wi-Fi).
    3. Wait a moment and retry the action.
    4. If it happened during a large export/report, try a smaller selection.
  • If it keeps happening on a good connection: it may point to a slow response from the server. Note the action, the date/time, and how large the data was; take a screenshot and report it. Start with your administrator.
Working offline

The web version of Protrak needs an active internet connection. If your connection drops, actions will fail until it is restored — your unsaved work stays on screen, so reconnect and save again rather than reloading.

Location access

"Location access must be allowed to continue."

  • What it means: A feature needs your device's location, but the browser has not been given permission.
  • What you can do:
    1. When your browser prompts for location, choose Allow.
    2. If you previously blocked it, open the site permissions (usually via the padlock/site icon in the address bar) and set Location to Allow, then retry.
    3. Make sure location services are enabled on your device's operating system.

"Geolocation values are not available."

  • What it means: Location information could not be determined for this record, or none is stored.
  • What you can do: If you expected a location, confirm location access is allowed (above) and that the record actually has location data. This can also be a normal empty state when no location was ever captured.

"You do not have permission to view this geolocation."

Camera & other device features

Some features (such as scanning text or capturing photos) use your device's camera. If a camera feature does nothing or shows a permission prompt:

  • Choose Allow when the browser asks for camera access.
  • If you blocked it earlier, re-enable Camera in the site permissions (via the address-bar site icon) and retry.
  • On a phone or tablet, confirm the browser is allowed to use the camera in your device settings.
