Pinned Forms
A pinned form stays visible at the top of a record's View or Edit page, above the tabs. Whatever tab a user moves to — Activities, Attachments, Messages, a relation grid — the pinned form stays on screen.
Use it for the handful of fields people need in front of them the whole time they work on a record: its status, its owner, its key dates, or a Compact Lifecycle showing how far along it is.
What you can do
- Keep the fields that matter most on screen, no matter which tab a user is on
- Pin more than one form, in the order you choose
- Let users collapse a pinned form when they need the room back
- Start a form collapsed, so it's there when wanted but out of the way by default
Pinning a form moves it out of the tabs. A pinned form is no longer part of the Details tab — it now lives in the band above the tabs instead. It isn't shown twice.
How to configure
- Open Design Studio → Page Templates and select (or create) a View or Edit template.
- On the designer canvas you'll see a Pinned Forms section above the usual Forms section.
- Drag a form from the widget library into Pinned Forms — or drag an existing form up from the Forms section.
- Open the form's settings (⚙) to choose:
- Collapsible — whether users get a control to collapse and expand it. On by default.
- Collapsed by default — whether it starts collapsed the first time a user opens the record. Off by default, and only available while Collapsible is on.
- Save.
Only forms can be pinned. Dragging any other widget into the section is refused.
To unpin, drag the form back down into the Forms section. It returns to the tabs, and its collapse settings reset.
Order and multiple pinned forms
You can pin as many forms as you like. They stack in the order they appear in the Pinned Forms section, so drag them to reorder.
Pin sparingly. The band grows to fit whatever is pinned and the tabs get whatever height is left — there is no cap and the band does not scroll on its own. One or two short forms works well; four tall ones leaves users a cramped strip to work in. Setting a form to start collapsed keeps it available without spending the height.
What users see
- The pinned form sits above the tab strip, separated by a thin rule.
- If it's collapsible, a chevron appears on the right. Collapsed, the form's name stays visible so users know what they've hidden.
- A user's choice to collapse or expand is remembered for the rest of their session.
- On phones and tablets, pinned forms always start collapsed — there simply isn't the height to do otherwise. Users can expand them.
Behavior
- Editing works exactly as it does in a tab. A pinned form on an Edit template is fully editable, and one Save covers the pinned form and the tabs together.
- The same attribute can appear in a pinned form and a tab form. Both stay in step as the user types — but it's usually a sign the field should be in one place, not two.
- Visibility rules still apply. Roles, visibility settings and display conditions work on a pinned form just as on any other widget. If a display condition hides everything in it, the band disappears cleanly rather than leaving an empty strip.
- If every form on an Edit template is pinned, there are no tabs left to show, so the tab strip is hidden and the form fills the page. (Access Control, if enabled, still contributes a tab.)
- Pins are shared across devices. The band is part of the page, not a per-device layout choice, so a pinned form is pinned on desktop, tablet and mobile alike.
- Not shown in embedded views. Dashboard and relation scroll views show records as panels inside another page, so a pinned band there would compete with that page's own header. Printed stickers don't show it either.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| The Pinned Forms section isn't on the canvas | It's only offered on View and Edit templates. Create, Quick Edit and Sticker templates don't have one. |
| A form won't drop into the section | Only Form widgets can be pinned — other widgets are refused. |
| The pinned form is missing at runtime | Its visibility settings, roles or display conditions are hiding it — the same rules that would hide it in a tab. |
| The form appears in the band and in the Details tab | It shouldn't. Check you haven't configured two separate forms over the same attributes. |
| No collapse chevron | Collapsible is switched off in the form's settings. |
| Very little room left for the tabs | Too many or too tall forms are pinned. Unpin some, or set them to start collapsed. |
